What is BMR?

BMR stands for Basal Metabolic Rate, which is the amount of energy expended by the body at rest in order to maintain basic physiological functions such as breathing, circulation, and cell production. It represents the minimum number of calories needed to sustain life in a resting individual.

The Harris-Benedict equation is a commonly used method to estimate BMR. There are separate equations for men and women.

This formula provides an estimate of the number of calories and protein your body needs at rest. Keep in mind that individual variations and factors such as muscle mass, body composition, and overall health can affect actual calorie needs.

It’s important to note that these calculations are estimates, and they may not perfectly reflect an individual’s metabolism. Contact Megan if you are unsure or consult a healthcare or fitness professional that can provide more personalised guidance based on your specific needs and goals.
